STATEMENT ON THE ETHICS OF PUBLICATION AND ABUSE OF PUBLICATION

The Journal Historical Searches stands behind the Statement on Publication Ethics and Abuse of Publication, and the Editorial Board of the Journal and the publisher, the Institute of History, are responsible for implementing the Journal’s policy.

Editor’s Responsibilities:
The decision on which manuscripts will be published in the Journal Historical Searches is made by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, by the editorial policies and applicable laws. The Editor must ensure the preservation of the integrity of academic works impartially, without discrimination of authors, and prevent the violation of both intellectual and ethical principles. In the event of complaints about the work of the Editor, the Editor is obliged to announce corrections, clarifications regarding his work, and an apology if necessary. The Editor preserves the anonymity of reviewers and may share information about the manuscript only with the author, reviewers, and the publisher, while the Editorial Board and the Editor may not disclose it to other parties. When there is a conflict of interest with the author, the Editor must submit the manuscript for review and consideration by one of the members of the Editorial Board.

Responsibilities of Reviewers:
Reviewers play a key role in making editorial decisions and improving the quality of the work, acting objectively and fairly, without subjective criticism. All reviewed manuscripts are treated as confidential materials. Reviewers are obliged to keep the information and ideas gained during the review confidential, and may not use them for personal purposes or disclose them, except with the permission of the editor. In the event of a conflict of interest with the author, co-author, or the work itself, the reviewer is obliged to report it to the editor and refuse to review it. Also, the reviewer is obliged to inform the editor about substantial similarities or overlaps of the manuscript with other, already published, works, as well as about potential uncited or plagiarism.

Responsibilities of Authors/Co-authors:
The author/co-author is obliged to submit a completely original manuscript, with properly cited and cited parts of the works of other authors, if present. The information provided in the text must be accurate. The author/co-author is obliged to disclose information that may lead to a conflict of interest and affect the incorrect interpretation of the manuscript. The Author/Co-authors confirm that their work is original and has not been previously published (except as an excerpt or as an integral part of a published lecture, etc.); that the Manuscript has not been offered to another journal for publication; and that the Manuscript has the consent of all co-authors for publication (in the case of a co-authored work) and that an author’s contract with the publisher will be signed. By signing the contract, the author/co-authors confirm that the manuscript is based on well-founded and legal claims and that it does not violate the rights of others. If the work contains materials protected by copyright or related rights, the Author/Co-authors are obliged to secure written permission from the holders of such rights for their use. The Author/Co-author with whom communication is made confirms that he/she is authorized to transfer the copyright to the Publisher. The University of Sarajevo uses a plagiarism detection software tool to review all works under its jurisdiction, including manuscripts submitted to the journal Historical Searches.

Publisher Responsibilities:
The Institute of History will ensure the preservation of ethical norms and prevent abuses in the publishing process, adhering to the standards of the Statement defining the responsibilities of editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers.
