Historical Searches is the “younger” journal of the Institute of History of the University of Sarajevo. Since its inception in 2008, it has represented a platform for disseminating newly achieved historiographic scientific research results of the younger generation of historians from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and the world. The fundamental characteristic of the journal is that, in addition to works in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it also publishes scientific historiographic works in English, which seeks to achieve the tendency of its opening up to the international public.
The journal is open to a wide range of thematic historiographic concepts that refer primarily to the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then the region and the world from ancient times to the present day, with priority given to alternative historiographic trends that primarily concern social history and resonate with current problems of today: gender history, history of marginal groups, ecohistory, etc. In this sense, the journal, through sporadically given concepts of thematic frameworks, seeks to profile itself as a scientific and humanistic platform, within which interdisciplinary, multi-perspective, and comparative approaches to the study of Bosnian and Herzegovinian and regional history would be encouraged, and ultimately critical reflection and strengthening of civil society would be encouraged.
Domestic and foreign authors find the journal Historical Searches a platform for presenting historiographic results from the ancient period to the most recent times. Through the journal Historical Searches, many historiographic schools from different parts of the world meet and get to know each other. Based on the works published in Historical Searches, scientific and research perspectives are expanded, progress is made in understanding and knowledge of the past, and the positioning of Bosnian and Herzegovinian historiography is strengthened, which is also the mission of this journal. Authors and the scientific public within the journal have the opportunity to follow original scientific papers, previous communications, review articles, expert contributions, and translations of significant scientific papers, and on this basis to improve and review the achieved scientific achievement and, through published papers, to advance constructive, professionally responsible, ethical and intellectual reflection on the Bosnian and Herzegovinan and wider past from the oldest days to the modern and contemporary reality, which is how Historical Searches justifies its vision and goal.
